President's Message
Kevin Hostler, President and CEO
Planning for the future

At Alyeska, we
are looking ahead, discussing our future as a company, and more
critically, addressing the future of the Trans Alaska Pipeline
System. Today the pipeline delivers about 700,000 barrels of oil
a day - only one third of the pipeline's peak throughput of 2.1
million barrels a day in 1988. With a predicted continuing
decline of about 5 percent per year, Alaska cannot afford for us
to be idle: With more than 90 percent of the state's annual
budget coming from oil revenue, the integrity and reliability of
the pipeline is as critical to Alaska as ever.
So what do we
do? Simply put, Alyeska must change the way it does business.
Every employee on TAPS must commit to finding efficiencies,
applying new technology, and simplifying processes. And we must
do this while maintaining our focus on safety and system
integrity, and our company's values and relationships.
Over the past
several months, I have talked to hundreds of employees about the
need to take ownership of Alyeska and be part of the solution.
In the community, Alyeska representatives have spoken about
today's throughput to help build a statewide understanding of
the challenges facing our industry.
Internally,
employees have stepped up to help with forward-looking
initiatives and studies. Many efforts are beginning to result in
change, including efficiencies in every department in the
company and synergies across departments and divisions. Our
responsible actions and preparations now will position TAPS for
successful operations for years to come.
